Hamilton
The first time I ever heard of Hamilton, it was from a guy who I thought was annoying. He raved about it. I thought I was cooler than him, so I guess I subconsciously decided to ignore the show.
We moved to New York in 2016. Hamilton was always one of those things we'd "do one day," but tickets are expensive, babysitters are expensive, and in four years we never got around to it. When the pandemic closed Hamilton in March of 2020, I wondered if we had missed our opportunity.
The first time I actually heard a song from Hamilton was a month later, when the cast dropped in on John Krasinski's Some Good News.
I spent much of the pandemic listening to the soundtrack on repeat, and being afraid that we had missed our shot to see it.
We bought tickets the day that tickets went back on sale, and saw Hamilton two weeks after it reopened.
"History is happening in Manhattan and we just happen to be in the Greatest City in the World."
Tears were shed.
